Overview

Water Lily Japanese Cuisine, nestled in the charming enclave of Stone Harbor, NJ, offers an authentic taste of Japan with a modern coastal twist. Located at 9709 3rd Ave, this restaurant captures both the essence of traditional Japanese fare and the relaxing ambiance of a harbor-side dining experience.

The menu stands out with its diverse selection of sushi rolls, tempura, and classic entrees. Signature dishes like the Water Lily Roll—a vibrant combination of spicy tuna, fresh salmon, avocado, and caviar—arrive accompanied by a delicate seaweed salad, showcasing the chef’s attention to balance and texture. Equally notable is the Beef Teriyaki, a hearty main where tender slices of beef meet perfectly steamed rice, creating a satisfying harmony of flavor and comfort.

Beyond sushi, their tempura offerings—featuring lightly battered vegetables and crispy chicken katsu—display a mastery of frying technique that yields a golden, crisp exterior while keeping the interior tender and flavorful. The variety of sushi rolls, from the refreshing Alaska Salmon roll to the boldly flavored Spicy Crunchy Roll, caters to both traditionalists and adventurous palates alike.

Excellent Japanese restaurant. Sushi was very good. Very fresh fish and ample portions. Sushi rolls were also very good. The beef teriyaki was very well done and the rice made it perfect. We were there during a downpour and the staff accommodated everyone inside quickly and efficiently. The staff was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning.

Not half bad for a cute small-ish stone harbor haunt. Nothing to write home about but it’s safe and accessible in a place where you might not otherwise be able to find this type of cuisine. Menu stand outs will be of course the sushi and Teriyaki. Sashimi and sushi combos of course always a hit. The “sushi sandwich” on the board outside is definitely a bit gimmicky. “Surprisingly good for a place that is itself out of its element”; said another diner. At least it’s near the ocean. Veggies could be fresher. Restaurant could work on sourcing. As with most places staff can be hard to find, so be patient with them.
